continuously improve the campus in partnership with all members of
the University community to ensure that classrooms, laboratories,
and offices support teaching, learning and research. Through the

the asset management program, custodial services, maintenance
operations, engineering and technical services, environmental

is: Monday, March 25, 2024ResponsibilitiesEquipment Operating
Engineer:
Dig holes, trenches and ditches with
the backhoe or hand tools and loads soil to prepare sites for
irrigation repairs, landscape maintenance, or planting. Use the
following tools and equipment to perform duties: Case 590 or 570
Backhoe, 30 cm, 61 cm and 106 cm backhoe buckets, front scoop, clam
bucket, and small hand tools. Use Bobcat or Dingo 1000 and its many
attachments Able to trailer and transport machinery safely.Perform
demolition including soil preparation, amendment, rototilling and
grading.Dig to repair header boards; renovate turf, aerate, and
scalp; and oversee top dress and/or lay sod.Assist with
installation, repair and/or relocation of grounds furnishings, and
erosion control. Under direct supervision of a tree specialist,
operates hi-ranger truck, chipper and stump grinder. Operate other
equipment to complete landscape services like Tennant M30,
wash-down/vacuum trucks, riding lawn mowers, and sweeper. Work with
the Fire Mitigation team to perform fog removal/relocation.
Complete landscape maintenance tasks when needed.Perform a pre-trip
vehicle inspection of the equipment each day including greasing the
equipment, checking and topping off fluid levels, checking brakes
and tire pressure, and ensuring all lights are in working order. At
the work site, receive instructions from the Lead or his designate.
Determine how the machine will be set up for the task. Check for
overhead obstructions (power lines, trees, etc.) and set up
barriers as required.Administrative Duties:
Adhere to the scheduling or work
through the work management program as required. Consult shop
superintendent and/or lead for technical information. Support
landscape maintenance projects and work assignments. Keep accurate
work records and complete paperwork in a neat and timely manner.
Define and describe materials, tools and/or equipment, work methods
and task sequences. Serve as liaison with clients, relaying their
needs and requirements to the appropriate department or
superintendent. Obtain materials and equipment as required.Safety:
Adhere to all university and
departmental safety guidelines. Attend job-related and safety
training as required.Other:
Perform other duties as
assigned.Required Qualifications
Four-year apprenticeship program or
equivalent.Three years journeyman experience in a comparable
position or related experience in a university, hospital or large
building complex.Education and training can be through documented
experience and/or professional development through an accredited
college or university.Experience using a variety of craft
techniques and au tools pertaining to the trade, including digging
hales, trenches and ditches.Ability to safely move supplies and
objects up to 75 pounds with or without a reasonable
accommodation.Ability to gain access to small/tight areas and able
to work or maneuver around obstacles that require stairs and
ladders.Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.Ability to operate heavy and
light equipment including, but not limited to, bobcat, truck,
backhoe. trenching machine,Dingo. washdown truck, mower and related
earthmoving equipment for maintenance and mowing activities.Ability
to communicate using verbal and non-verbal cues with the Lead or
designate.Ability to assist all sub-units in Landscape Services. as
necessary, in a variety of other tasks, as assigned.Ability service
and make minor repairs in the maintenance of equipment.Ability to
clear and level ground: transport and hoist, load and unload earth,
equipment and supplies. Level roadways and pathsAbility to operate
machinery for underground excavation, digging, for irrigation and
landscape services teamKnowledge of and ability to conform to
Facilities Services, University, state, and federal policies and
procedures including safety policies such as the EPA, IIPP,
Hazardous Materials Communications Program, and The Health and
Safety Manual.Ability to work with a fitted respirator as
required.Excellent communication skills and ability to interact in
a positive manner with the campus community, including students,
building managers, academic personnel, and craft personnel, in a
multi-cultural environment.Ability to track jobs lo completion and
prioritize requirements; able to work and support project schedules
to minimize interference with others.Ability to read Information
from equipment manufacturers' manuals, service requests, layout
sketches, blueprints, appropriate state and local government codes,
trade-specific manuals and practices, and to determine how the
fixture or equipment should perform.Ability to communicate clearly
over the telephone and two way radio.Ability to execute all job
assignments in a timely manner.Availability to respond to
emergencies, work on-call, weekend on-call, rotating swing shift,

organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be
offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position.
Salary offers are determined based on final candidate
qualifications and experience.The budgeted salary or hourly range
that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is
$53.27 (step 1.0).
This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours
per week), career position that is eligible for full UC
benefits.This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly.How to
