General Summary & Scope
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for leading through Ulta
Beauty's mission, vision, and values to develop a high-performing
team that consistently delivers top-line sales growth for the
store. The GM leads a team of managers and is accountable for all
aspects of managing a single retail store, including the salon.
This leader drives the store's business focusing on performance
(sales, service, and expense control), people (talent acquisition,
training, and development), and process (standard operating
procedures and compliance standards). This position requires a
passion for process excellence, a drive for results, and the
ability to lead, influence, and develop their team.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
The GM is a champion of Ulta Beauty's mission, vision, and values,
demonstrating them consistently by performing the following duties
and responsibilities (as well as all other projects/duties as
assigned):
Performance
- Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed Ulta
Beauty's goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty
(including credit), payroll, omni-channel, and retail
shrink.
- Drive company profitability through operational excellence,
top-line sales growth, and expense control.
- Leverage store forecast and payroll budgets to support store
scheduling needs to maximize productivity, achieve sales and
payroll goals, and complete workload on time, within the payroll
budget.
- Address issues identified by financial and operational
reporting, store visits, and audit results to meet Ulta Beauty's
goals and drive profitability.
- Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product
demonstrations to drive sales and enhance guest service
experience.
- Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services
during work time, and be knowledgeable about ingredients and
benefits to better serve guests.
- Maintain prompt, regular attendance as the GM and hold all
store associates accountable to the attendance policy.
People
- Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent; address
staffing needs efficiently.
- In partnership with the DM and People Success, address policy
violations with appropriate corrective action, including separation
of employment, following policies and procedures.
- Build a highly engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand
through effective collaboration and communication.
- Create an inclusive environment that encourages growth and
engagement of associates.
- Lead all aspects of manager and associate development,
including training, feedback, coaching, performance reviews,
succession planning, and individual development plans.
- Participate in ongoing training to enable continuous
professional development and drive sales performance.
- Ensure direct reports participate in ongoing training to
support development and sales goals.
- Model a culture of open communication and share enterprise
strategy with direct reports.
- Promote teamwork by working alongside the management team,
establishing priorities, and providing clear direction.
- Execute the Guest Engagement Leader program effectively through
business ownership, coaching, and leading a helpful, friendly guest
experience to meet APG metrics.
Process
- Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty's policies, procedures, and
standards.
- Adhere to and enforce the dress code.
- Use scheduling tools to assign staff effectively, providing an
exceptional guest experience, reducing loss, and executing
directives.
- Use task management tools to prioritize store workload and
ensure compliance.
- Protect assets and minimize loss by meeting standards in
safety, inventory control, cash management, and loss
prevention.
- Manage inventory control processes and report theft as
necessary.
- Support continuous improvement by adopting company initiatives
and technology, communicating expectations, and executing store
tasks.
- Utilize company programs, tools, and resources to improve store
performance.
- Communicate regularly with field leadership on business trends,
operational challenges, merchandise needs, and the competitive
landscape.
Job Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience
- 3-5+ years of retail management or relevant experience
- Experience with driving sales, interpreting reports, managing
payroll, and controlling expenses
- Proven ability in inventory monitoring, operational excellence,
service culture, and merchandising execution
- Leadership experience in attracting, developing, and motivating
talent, and leading through change
Skills
- Proficient with POS, Microsoft Office, Apple devices
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong collaboration and organizational skills
- Ability to react under pressure and adapt flexibly
Special Position Requirements
- Flexible full-time schedule including days, evenings, weekends,
holidays
- Availability to close the store at least once a week
- Attend meetings and conferences, including overnight and
interstate travel
- Maintain valid ID for airline travel
Working Conditions
- Frequent use of computers and office supplies
- Continuous mobility in the store
- Frequent physical activity including bending, reaching, lifting
up to 25 lbs.

The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $54.00/hour, with
potential for additional compensation through bonuses. Full-time
benefits include paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and
