Job Description:
Job Title: Registered Nurse - PACU Profession: RN (Registered
Nurse) Specialty: PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) Duration: 13
weeks Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum 2
years of recent critical care experience License: Required
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Recent ICU experience or
inpatient facility experience Description: The PACU unit includes
both Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery areas. There are 6 beds available
in the PACU. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 2:1. The electronic
medical record system used is Cerner. The unit operates with no
charge nurse and no nurse aides available. Weekend and holiday
on-call duties are required. Weekday on-call starts from 20:00 to
08:00. Weekend on-call shifts are from 07:30 to 08:00 on Saturday
and Sunday. Call responsibilities are often shared among staff
members. Scrubs are provided in ceil blue color. The unit is
equipped with telemonitoring and vent care capabilities.
Hospitalists or intensivists are present in-house. IV and
respiratory therapy teams are available 24/7. Pharmacy services are
also provided 24/7. Most shifts will start around noon, from 12:00
to 20:30. Floating is only to pre-op and is not considered floating
in the traditional sense. Specific orientation is provided for
floor practices. Common case types include neuro, GYN, podiatry,
general, urology, and ortho. ICU patients do recover in the PACU.
The cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled
within a 13-week assignment. Charting responsibilities are managed
via the Cerner system.
